Alumni Telethon
News
Twice a year teams of students at the University of Bath work on the Alumni Fund telethon campaign. This involves calling University alumni, in the UK and overseas, to fund raise for the many Alumni Fund. The Fund supports projects which enhance the student experience and allow greater engagement with activities across the University.
This year, members of the CAMERA team joined the student ambassadors and staff from the Department of Development & Alumni Relations to give an overview of the how the Centre had benefited from the Alumni Fund and to provide a fun VR Demo as motivation and reward for working on the campaign.
CAMERA received an award of £18k to allow Computer Science students to self-build a 3D body scanner. The build process itself is a valuable training experience which allows students and researchers to work together to put off the shelf technology to better use with innovative algorithmic developments. The finished scanner will allow very quick digitisation of participants into virtual avatars. This will allow them to be integrated into VR environments and with motion capture, all in real time. This will support cutting edge research across the departments of Health, Psychology, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science.
