World-leading multi-disciplinary research in Intelligent Visual and Interactive Technology.

About

Working with Partners

Research at CAMERA is underpinned by academic and partner expertise in Computer Vision, Graphics, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and AI. This is complemented by additional expertise – health, rehabilitation, biomechanics, sport performance and psychology – which allows us to maximise impact in wider areas which would otherwise not be possible. Leveraging this expert basis, we work with partners to generate impact and translate our research and technology across three themes: Creative Science & Technology, Digital Health & Assistive Technology, and Human Performance Enhancement.

CAMERA builds on and extends existing impactful relationships between leading researchers at the University of Bath supported by investment from the University, from external partners and with the close participation of Bath’s EPSRC Doctoral Training Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE) and UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI).

How We Are Funded

CAMERA has 2 Motion Capture facilities at the University of Bath. These include high-end motion capture, 3D Scanning and gait analysis – with future developments to include volumetric capture and virtual production. In addition to research collaborations and commercial projects, CAMERA’s additional support from the European Structural Investment Fund (ESIF) enabled us to provide assisted support to 95 regional businesses, including access to high-end motion capture and instrumented gait analysis – democratising access to state of the art technologies to companies of all sizes.

CAMERA is one of 4 partner in the European Media and Immersion Lab (EMIL).  EMIL is a pan-European XR Lab network composed of four major European academic institutions, with a mission to accelerate development of virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies, content, services and applications.  As part of our involvement in this project CAMERA will be leading a Lighthouse project on Exergaming led by CAMERA Co-Investigator Dr Christof Lutteroth.

Through our research expertise and facilities, our mission is to generate world class multi-disciplinary research, impact, innovation and awareness of motion based technologies for animation of digital content for virtual and augmented reality, avatar animation, training simulation and motion analysis for healthcare assessment, prevention and treatment of motion based conditions and development of next generation rehabilitation solutions for physical and mental health conditions.
