CAMERA Welcomes Scholarship Student
A very warm welcome to Yi Wan, our newest member of the CAMERA team. Yi is a China Scholarship PhD Student who will be working on the use of visual biofeedback in the prevention and management of knee osteoarthritis.
The University’s agreement with the China Scholarship Council (CSC), established a joint scholarship programme to attract top PhD candidates from China. Marking the second year anniversary of the agreement, Jeremy Bradshaw, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Doctoral and International said:
“This is one of the most prestigious programmes for international postgraduate research funding and we are delighted to be welcoming more talented researchers into our community thanks to the Bath-CSC agreement. These scholarships are highly competitive. They will help us to strengthen our research links with Chinese Universities. It’s good to see that our new scholars are settling into the University and I am delighted that they are already sharing the benefits of their experience with Doctoral College staff.”
Supervised by Dr Polly McGuigan and Prof James Bilzon in the Department for Health, Yi’s research will use the 3D Motion Capture System and the Qualysis system to explore the use of biofeedback on knee joint loading in people with knee osteoarthritis, and to develop an optimised movement pattern in daily activities. We caught up with her to find out more.
“I did my BSc of Rehabilitation Science in Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China. Then I worked for China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine for one year as an internship physiotherapist. I did my MSc in Physiotherapy in Cardiff University, and published my masters project which was about the effect of visual feedback on the performance of balance test in both conference and journal. In September 2019, I started my PhD journey with China Scholarship Council-University of Bath joint scholarship.
My research interests are musculoskeletal rehabilitation, sports medicine, physiotherapy, acute and chronic disease (e.g. knee osteoarthritis, shoulder rotator cuff tear, sports injury), motion analysis, biomechanics.
Bringing the research into practice is my end goal, to enhance the public health and healthcare service environment. Joining this fantastic multi-discipline team, I hope we can work together to create a better prospects in different related areas.”
