Welsh National Opera & REWIND

Magic Butterfly is an exciting, brand new sensory experience by Welsh National Opera and REWIND VR immersing you in the world of music and theatre. Cutting edge Virtual Reality (VR) technology transforms scenes from two world famous operas: Madam Butterfly and The Magic Flute. Magic Butterfly reimagines opera in a way you never thought possible.

The project involved capturing body and face motion data from world renowned soprano, Karah Son, whilst she performed the much-loved aria, ‘Un Bel Di,’ from the opera, Madam Butterfly. The capture involved finding a solution to capturing the movement of the sleeves on the digital Madam Butterfly avatar’s kimono for use in real time pre-visualisation.

Find out more about the Welsh National Opera’s production of Madam Butterfly via the WNO website and on our Blog.

Balls! VR Cricket Game

Stickee are a creative technology, software and digital design company based in London. They approached CAMERA to provide motion captured movements for multiple characters in a VR cricket game ‘Balls!’. The shoot used an Xsens suit to capture the performer’s movements and allowed our Head of Studio, Martin, to quickly process the data files.

Dancer Motion Capture Shoot

Artist George Eksts approached CAMERA in 2016 to set up a one day motion capture shoot of a dancer for an installation he was creating looking at perceptions of time. The shoot used CAMERA’s optical body motion capture system and involved capturing a series of eleven choreographed routines. The motion capture files were delivered to the client as fbx files via a secure file transfer protocol.

Really happy with the mocap files!” George Eksts, March 2016

Immersive Experiences creative agency, Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) were commissioned by the British Council to create a virtual reality experience based on local community members in Mexico City; The ‘Chameleon Project.’ MLF contacted CAMERA regarding the processing of Artec data scans generated in Mexico into facial models which could be animated inside a virtual environment, and experienced via a Vive headset. The project was a great success and will be recreated at the University of Bath as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations.

The feedback has been great and we really appreciate your help.” Robin McNicholas, Director, MLF, Oct 2016
