The CAMERA team is very pleased to welcome Pedro Mota Mendes to the team as our newest Research Associate.

Pedro joins us from Deloitte Digital Portugal, in the group Center for Disruption, where he worked on creating disruptive technologies for the banking and insurance sectors. Here, Pedro’s research focused on the field of Big Data visualization with VR.

As part of the CAMERA team, Pedro will be collaborating with Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) on an Innovate UK funded project developing ground breaking Virtual Reality (VR) technologies enabling real time tracking and digital rendering of deformable objects. Called DOVE – Deformable Objects for Virtual Environments – the technology will initially be applied within a VR dining experience by world leading Chef, Heston Blumenthal, in his restaurant, the Fat Duck.

Pedro has a MsC in Biomedical Engineering by Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, completing his master’s thesis with Siemens Portugal, entitled “Correction of Spatial Distortion in Magnetic Resonance Images”.

Before joining CAMERA, Pedro worked as a researcher in Porto Interactive Center in Universidade do Porto in the fields of Facial Motion Capture, Avatar Generation and Human-Computer Interaction. Here he began working on his PhD with the topic Automatic Facial Rigging System.
